About Spirit Free Counselling

Our History

Martin first trained in counselling 30 years ago studying Jungian Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis. After 30 years of using counselling skills to successfully help a wide range of clients, women and men of all ages with diverse ethnicities, sexualities, disabilities and neuro-diversities, Martin qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor and set up Spirit Free Counselling in response to the mental health crisis in the UK.

He still counsels those of all faiths and none, but noticed that not many counsellors could truly help clients to explore their own faith and spirituality as part of the counselling process. This is because many counsellors are not persons of faith themselves, so it is much harder for them to relate to the experience of a person of faith.

As a member of his local Council of Faiths and a practicing Christian who is open to the insights of all faiths, Martin wanted to offer people of any faith the chance to work through their issues in the light of their own faith and beliefs as an important element of who they are and who they want to be.

Staying true to the principles of person-centred counselling, Martin will never try to persuade or advise you. Instead he will help you to work through your issues in a gentle way at a pace that you are comfortable with so that you can find lasting freedom and peace.

“Martin is a great listener. I finished counselling in such a better place than where I started. I now feel free to live my life to the full!”
